Application-specific notes for UPSC
- UPSC checks face coverage, not just file size: the photograph must show at least 75% face coverage, and the instruction sheet prints sample photographs marked rejected purely for falling below that. A correctly compressed 20-200 KB file with the face too small in the frame is still refused.
- The uploaded file has to be named photo, in jpg, on a plain white background, with the head centred and both ears visible. The don'ts are as specific as the dos: no uniform, no dark or coloured glasses, no shadow on the face or behind it, no hair over the eyes, and the photograph is not to be signed.
- A live photograph capture is now mandatory for any examination on the portal, taken through the device webcam or by scanning a QR code with a phone. The uploaded photograph does not replace that step, so prepare the file and still expect to be photographed during the application.
