What the Singapore application actually asks for
- ICA's visa guide and its general photo page cover different workflows: a visa upload is exactly 400 x 514 pixels and under 60 KB, while the general guidance for passports and identity cards allows a much larger file. Use the visa guide for this preset rather than transferring the 8 MB figure across services.
- That 60 KB ceiling is tight for a 400 x 514 image, so compress deliberately and check the face is still clear rather than compressing blindly to the number.
- The 400:514 canvas is almost the same proportion as a 35:45 print, so the reference crop needs little geometric change. It still needs an exact pixel export; assigning a DPI label to a 35 x 45 file does not create the required width and height.
- ICA states a maximum of less than 60 KB and publishes no minimum. A clear file below the ceiling is within the recorded size rule; do not enlarge a smaller image merely to approach 60 KB or treat 60 KB as the requested final weight.
- The visa photograph is scoped to a three-month recency window in the linked SAVE guide. That is shorter than the six-month language used by several other destinations, so check the capture date rather than reusing an older Schengen or passport photograph automatically.
- The plain white background, exact canvas, JPEG encoding and byte ceiling are separate properties. Check them individually in the downloaded file, then compare the result with the current SAVE screen because the generic ICA identity-document page is not the governing upload instruction here.
Before you upload — Singapore photo preparation checklist
- A plain, evenly lit background to start (we apply the selected colour)
- Face the camera straight on, both ears roughly visible
- Neutral expression, mouth closed, eyes open
- A recent photo, taken within the last 6 months
- Shadows on your face or the wall behind you
- Glasses — remove them unless they're medically required
- Hair across the eyes, hats or caps
- Filters, beauty smoothing, or a cropped group photo
Get the head size right
For Singapore, your face should fill 70–80% of the photo — the maker does this automatically, but here's what it should look like.

Good to know
Singapore visa photo (ICA): 35x45mm on plain white, taken within 3 months. The visa upload is a JPEG of exactly 400x514 px and under 60 KB, per ICA's SAVE visa application guide - a tight cap, and different from the 8 MB allowed on ICA's general photo-guidelines page, which covers passports and ID cards rather than visas. No head coverings except for religious reasons.
